AVG for Email bouncing emails

I currently use AVG Free Edition and i'm having a problem with the email scanning. Usually it works, but sometimes i get an error like this (i've removed email addresses and IP's):

"From: AVG for Email <avgmail@localhost>
To: ******@dansoftaustralia.com
Subject: Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender
Date: Sun, 10 Apr 2005 12:17:56 +1000

This is the AVG E-mail Scanner program.
I'm sorry to have to inform you that the message returned

last 30 minutes or do not have SMTP Authentication turned on in your email

Hope someone can help,

At a guess, I'd say that the site is employing a new spam filter method called Greylisting.

A server that is greylisting automatically bounces the first attempt to send email.  The idea behind it is that after the first bounce, your email server will try to send the email again in 15 minutes.  When it does so, the greylisting server will then allow the mail to pass.  Most SPAM programs (at least according to the theory), won't resend on bounce.

Check your email logs to see if the email that got bounced the first time was accepted on the second try.  If it did, then it's probably fine -- just annoying.

Good luck!

i don't have mail logs (at least i think i don't). I don't think that the message actually ended up being sent. I needed to log in to my WebMail and send it from there... I suppose that that's ok, just really annoying.
