Trouble Printing Black

I switched printer cartridges yesterday for the first time in my printer and I having trouble getting it print with the new cartridge.  I have tried running it through the toolbox and cleaning and priming and that sort of stuff but no luck yet.  If I open up word and type something and then try and print it will not show up.  It goes through all the motions but my page is not there.  If take and I turn the first letter on each line blue then it will print the line but the black will be very faint.  Nothing like it was before I changed the cartrige.  Is my new printer cartridge no good or has something went wront with my printer?

What printer is it? what make and model?
does it behave like that if you make a test print from the printer?

if possible, try another cartridge.
Also, are those original cartridges?

You mentioned that it's a new cartridge.  Has it been sealed in the original packaging till now, or was it opened when you originally got it, and left sitting on the shelf?  If the package was opened, then chances are good that the ink dried up or nossle dried up, and the cartridge is no good.  If the package was sealed and you still have it, check to see if it had an expiry date on it and see if it's past the date.

Do a nozzle cleaning and alignment check. These are  normally available in teh Properties page of an HP printer.

I tried the nozzle cleaning and priming and etc.   I will go and buy a new cartridge and try it.  Its the first time I have had to replace an inkjet cartrige so I wasn't sure if there was another step to the process other than pushing a new one in.

Its was a brand new cartridge that we bought about two weeks ago but it has always been sealed and the expiry date hasn't passed.   When I opened the package thought the little tab that you are supposed to pull of though was just sitting in the bottom of the package, I didn't have to pull it off so maybe it is dried up but I thought maybe it came off while I was taking out of its little somehow.

If you just bought the cartridge, I would take it back.  If that tab was off, then that's probably the issue.  I would think if you can get a replacement from the dealer, then I would try the manufacturer directly.

You didn't even tell us if it's an inkjet printer (which I think we are presuming) or a color laser printer.

Ok, I see now your reference to "nozzle cleaining", so I'm going to assume inkjet .....

If the tab was sitting in the bottom of the box, then air got to the nozzles and dried out the ink, and the product is now hopelessly clogged.  It's defective, take it back.  Actually, I'd question if it was previously sold, returned and reboxed.  There is just about no way for those tabs to come off "accidentally", but the carts. are also sealed in a bag that you really can't open and reseal.  In any case, the cart. is bad if the seal was off.  You can only expose the printhead to open air for between about 30 minutes and a few hours before you get a nearly hopeless nozzle clog from dried out ink.  Inside the printer, the nozzles are "capped", and for printers that need to change cartridges, such as those that use either a black or a photo cartridge in the same carriage, HP supplies a cartridge holder to cap the nozzles of the cartridge that is being stored outside of the printer.

Thanks for the points.  Did the dealer take it back in exchange, or did you have to shell out for a new one?

I bought the original from Radio Crap (Radio Shack) and last night I was in a different store and happened to remember to buy a new one as I walked by them so I haven't went back to the original store yet to return it.
