my desktop keeps shrinking and expanding

All of the sudden my desktop is acting weird.  It has expanded or enlarged itself on the screen.  When I open a window, everything shrinks and when i close it everything on the desktop including the desktop enlarges.  I have run Trojan guard, AVG, SpyBot Search & Destroy, Ad-Ware, HiJackThis,  and they have found nothing.  I am running XP w/SP2.

Have you installed any applications, upgraded drivers or added any other hardware to your machine?

Sounds like something(s) are inadvertantly playing with your screen resolution settings....

nothing at all has been added to either one of these computers.  They both share the same monitor, keyboard and mouse.  I haven't added any software, hardware or anything in months.

What do you mean by your desktop has expanded or enlarged itself on the screen?
    I don't understand that.

Doesn't everybody's desktop take up the entire screen?
I'd understand it if you said the desktop shrunk so that it pulled away from filling the physical screen dimensions....

    can you explain?

    Accepted Solution

Could it be a faulty monitor? Have you try plug in a different monitor (a new one preferably)?

Maybe worth checking that your graphics card is functioning properly as well.  Have a look in the device manager.

And also worth checking that none of the accessibility options in Control Panel have been turned on by accident.
