How to create multiuser data entry application in VB6 and MS Access?

How to create multiuser data entry application in VB6 and MS Access?

I want to create a mutiuser data entry application and my databse (of ms access) will be stored on a remote machine.

1. How to connect to that machine and hence databse(dynamically)?

2. How to create users and give them rights.(i.e. full access/readonly etc.)

3. Backing up database and avoiding corruption

Please provide links to tutorials/codesamplea/working projext example or internet resources.

I use oracle, so I have very little info on the use of access, but I can help with some of the rest.

2: creating users and providing access is pretty basic stuff. I will assume you have the knowledge to create the forms for creating new users and changing rights, so I will skip that part here. As for the permissions, build a database table with the following fields:

I would name the permissions something you will remember rather than the "permission1" used in the example.
When you have the user login, check the un/pw against the database and place the permissions into global variables.

When you come to a section that you want only certain people to be able to see/do, perform an if statement against the global variables created earlier and control usage that way.

3: to back up an access database, simply make a copy of the mdb file, run access' backup, or schedule a backup using a 3rd party software.

I hope this helps, I am not sure of your skill level, but if you need more help, just ask.

In oracle9i

2. How to make connections.
3. Is window domain is nesessary.
these are some additional questions.

sorry...actually i am not a programmer.

Please tell me where can i get all these stuff/tutorials

My email

looking for ur next post...............
if you are not a programmer, I would recommend starting with an easier project than this. Most of what you are trying to do is not overly complex, but there are other issues you may run into that you will be better off if you get some practice in.
I dont really have any web based examples, I could write a small example program for you, but that is going to take some time as I am pretty busy. If you would like I will do this for you though. Let me know if you still need help.
