Printer wont print

Hi........i've got a HP laserJet 2100....installed on a n/work.  Its been working fine for ages and now all of a sudden wont print a thing.
It has no paper jams or anything like that.  You try and print a job and it just sits in the que.  The printer says its "Ready" but it just wont print a document.  I came into work and it had a job in the que of a large size and it was jsut sitting in the queue with an error......i have deleted the job and tried others and it just does the same thing.  I have also reset the printer, unplugged it for a while.  I have deleted it from the server and added it to the n/work again.  I have installed it on another port also to test.  I can however ping which ever port its is installed on.  I can also get it to print a test page by pushing the main button a cpl of times.
Everything i can see says the printer is working fine.....but like i said all docs just sit in the queue and nothing happens.

Any suggestions of what to try next?

Thankyou

You say jobs "sit in the queue with an error". What is the error? Have you used the event viewer (right-click on My Computer, select manage and then Event Viewer)?

The printer is on the network, but does it have a built-in network card, or a parallel connection to the server? As you say you can ping it, I assume it does not use a parallel connection to the (file) server.

If all else fails you can do a "cold reset" on the printer. To perform a cold reset, turn the printer power off, then press and hold the JOB CANCEL button. Turn the printer power back on and after all the LEDs come on release the JOB CANCEL button. A cold reset changes most system parameters in NVRAM to the factory defaults. The JOB CANCEL button must be released within 20 seconds after all of the LEDs come on; otherwise, an NVRAM initialization is performed instead of a cold reset. If that does not work, use the same instructions to reset all of NVRAM. Note that you will need to re-enter the printer's IP address after either of these (if using a built-in network card that is).

What kind of port are you using? Is it a Standard TCP/IP Port, or the HP TCP/IP Port? Either way, try creating the other one. Leave it set for "Raw" (under Configure Port)

the ip address of the printer has changed.  I was able to get it to print a report, etc by holding down the buttons.
How can i set it to a static ip (the printer) it has no display or other buttons on it.

Certainly, if the IP address has changed you will not be able to print. Has the IP address changed because of the cold reset (I mentioned you would have to re-enter it), or for some other reason?

To printing a configuration page on the LJ2100, press the GO and JOB CANCEL buttons simultaneously. That shows the current IP address. Then, point your internet browser at that address. The printer's web page will come up, with links to various setup pages, including the IP address. Set the IP address to the one you require, and you should be in business. Alternatively, use HP's JetAdmin or Web JetAdmin.
