FTP connection with IE problem

I used to connect via FTP to my web server with IE, but lately I cannot do that any more, the only program that works is WS FTP.

IE goes as far as saying "getting contents of folder" (so it authenticates ok) and then I get "an error occurred opening that folder on the ftp server. Make sure you have permissions to access that folder. Details, the operation timed out. Then i use the same credentials with WS FTP and it works!!! Why?!

I can't even access via DOS. I spoke to the provider and they say that nothing's changed on their side. I'd be happy if I could connect with Dreamweaver as well, that used to work too.
