From time to time I work on employees computers that have differnt workgroup names. These names seem to linger way after the computer is disconnected from our network. How can I remove the workgroup name from the entire network listing.

What version of Windows are we looking at and do you use WINS?  I would guess the records are in WINS and have not been removed?  The name would eventualy be romeved is that right or do you mean it never gets removed.  Reocrds in WINS have a default itme out value on them.

I feel your pain. I can't count the number of times I see "WORKGROUP" show up..
Unfortunately you just have to wait for it to drop out. I think it will drop by itself in about an hour. The Browse Master will keep it in the browse list and distribute it. It will take a while for everyone to stop seeing it. Perhaps identify and reboot the browse master might speed things up, but is it really worth taking down the DC just for that?

You can adjust your stale records in WINS.  This should do the trick.  If it's a small network drop it right down to 30 Minutes or something.
