I am working between a number of emails/database.  I would like to have an email open and also have the DB view open as well fo that I can see them both at the same time and then cut/paste between them.  I can only get one to be displayed on its own.

In R6 you can click on an application tab in the workspace, and select Open in New Window. I'm pretty sure there's a similar option in R5.
