Attributes in DB - Deferrable

My DB modeling gives me the option to check the following for a given attribute:

deferreable
initially deferrable

Why and when do I need to check this for an attribute?  This is Oracle 9i Rel 2

slightw is right - it involves constraints on the attribute.
