Create Ticker type window that is always on top

A client wants to have a window with ticker type action ( feed linked to their site, always on top, possibly anchored window) that they can provide as a download. They want this to run under all major browsers.

As far as I know it is not possible to have HTA always on top plus there is the IE restriction and I don't know of any other way this could be done.  If this is possible please provide suggestions and full code.

Thank you.

    Accepted Solution

You would do that with a compiled program and use an HTTP component to get the data from the clients website.

Were you to do this with VB, C++, or C# you can use the WinInet API or the XMLHTTP objects to make requests to the clients web site.

You wouldn't want to make this a compile HTML application as there are too many obstacles to overcome.  With a small compiled program it will run on the local machine in the context of the user.

Similarly you could use Java.  There are HTTP communications compnents available and presumably your ticker could run on any platform supporting JRE.

Information on the XMLHTTP object can be found here:  It can be called from a compile program in a similar manner to what you would use with the example code provided.

You'll need to write your own code.  We don't have sufficient specifications or access to the clients server to do it for you.
