Bluetooth and Activesync on iPaq hx2410

Hi there.

I have tried until I am blue in the face to get my iPaq to sync with MS Active Sync over a Bluetooth connection to no avail! Can anyone point me in the direction of a step-by-step guide to set this up or provide some advice on this?

The device uses Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Ed. The Desktop is running XP SP2. Activesync works fine over the USB.

Thanks for your time.

First of all, you have to establish BT connection to the PC. Tap on "Turn Bluetooth on", then start bluetooth manager and tap on Bluetooth icon in the taskbar. After - tap on "ActiveSync via Bluetooth" and follow the instructions ... I have this working just fine ... Let me know if you still have a problems ...

Hi Leo.

Have tried all of your suggestions already. I think it is a problem with the COM ports. The handheld uses 5 and 8 but the PC doesn't have those ports installed. AS is using COM 3. Will this make a difference? I wouldn't have thought so but it is weird!

Thanks.
Ok, what PC and what Bluetooth adaptor you have ?
Also, if you don't have many programs and data on your PPC - try to hard reset it and start BT connection from the scratch ...
I am using XP SP2 with a Widcomm BT driver.

I have already tried the hard reset thing! That's how long I have been trying to get this sorted! :)
When you doing search BT devices from the PC - can you see your PDA in the devices list ?
And vice-versa: can you see your PC in the devices list on the PDA ?
Yeah they can see eachother...my PC even makes the 'connection' sound when they PDA connects to it but the message on the PDA is that the service or device is unavailable or something like that. I am out of the office at another PC so can't reproduce the error until tomorrow...
What else you should do - establish BT link between PC and PDA, in the PDA Bluetooth manager, click on Explore BT devices and in the service list you should see COM port, add it to the shortcuts, connect to it. After this right click on your ActiveSync icon in the tray and choose "Connection Settings", then tick "Allow serial cable ... connect to this COM port" and choose your COM port. After this Active Sync over BT should work ...

Let me know and we can continue troubleshooting ...
Ok then I will try this tomorrow when I am back in the office and let you know - it does sound promising though!

Matt
One more: if you don't have COM ports in the Services List on your PDA, double click on the BT icon on the PC, go to the COM ports tab, ADD COM ports (this will take few minutes probably) and try to discover services again ...

This Active Sync over BT is pain in the ... back, sometimes :)
