Notes system folder showing up as mail folder?

I have a user who's notes folder within outlook XP is actually a mail folder.  In other words, if I right click the folder and go to properties, the type says "folder containing mail and post items" instead of "folder contains note items" like everybody elses.  I figured he manually created a mail folder and called it notes but when I went to go delete it I couldn't so it must be a system folder (special folder).  

Does anybody know how I can convert this to a notes folder again without exporting to a pst deleting from exchange and recreating?

If you are talking about exporting the whole mailbox, deleting and recreating the whole mailbox, then no you won't have to do all of that.

But you will have to export the contents of the NOTES folder and delete and recreate that particular folder.

The steps are identical to those in this article, obviously substituting NOTES folder for CALENDAR folder:
