In address book how do I remove a "Group" name from the group column ?

Or how do I empty the entire address book, if removal of a Group name is not possible ?

    To remove an entire group, select the group and go to Edit > Delete Group.

    To empty your entire Address Book, just click on the "All" group, select one card in the name column, then hit Command-A to select all. Then just press "delete".

    That's it.
