Opening the contents of a CD on OSX automatically

How do you make a CD partition open automaticallly on OSX?  I just loaded X tools on my Mac OS10.3.8 and the CD opened automatically, I would like to be able to learn how it is done.

There are a number of ways to do this. One of them is to create your disk image from which you later burn your CD with the hdiutil command line tool:

http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man1/hdiutil.1.html

One of the options is to use the makehybrid command and specifying -hfs-openfolder as one of the parameters. Using hdiutil is quite low level and not very interactive. Another more user friendly option is to use FileStorm from MindVision to create your disk images:

http://www.mindvision.com/filestorm.asp

FileStorm will create automounted images with just a few clicks.
