I want to Copy one HDD to another using GHOST 9, but I can't find the COPY option under TOOLS as stated in the Help file, the Booklet or their Web Site...?
I simply want to clone one HDD to another.

Are you using ghost on the command line or as GUI?

I am using the GUI by clicking on the icon in the system tray. Then, all the documentation I read says that I should find the COPY Option under TOOLS, but alas, it's not there (not even greyed out)...

This is Ghost 9

It came with a CD of GHOST 2003, which I know has the cloning feature and works well, but since I have the latest version and everything documented says it should be able to do it, I'd like to use it... if possible!

Any idea?

Do you have a button "Ghost Advanced"? If so, you should then also see a "Duplicate" icon.

The GHOST version 9 does not have the GHOST ADVANCED button as GHOST 2003 - I remember using version 2003 for cloning and as you wrote, I would go to GHOST ADVANCE, then choose the CLONE Option, but with version 9, I can't find it!

It looks as if ghost 9 can't directly clone disks, or then there are different versions (home, pro, enterprise etc) with more or less options. Either use ghost indirectly (create an image file first and then use that to create your new disk), or use another version. Of course you could also use acronis trueimage server, which I personaly prefer against ghost (http://acronis.com).

What makes me think it can be done, is the fact that it is referenced in the operation manual. the help file and on their Web site...

Surely , I am missing something....

As I mentioned above, there could be different versions of ghost being sold by symantec (at least it used to be that way with other programs they sell / sold, for instance the antivirus stuff). Whichever OS or user type they are meant for they have different functions. As for the manual, it probably is too complicated for them to make 10 different manuals for the same product...

Hi rindi,

Thank you for your help.

Since I went to Symantec web site to enquire about this issue and received the same answer as a read in the booklet and the help file, I don't think that the version of the software is the issue. I will continue to investigate and  will post my findings...

Anyone else has seen this before?

Hi rindi, Thank you for your help and comments.

Because the Option of Copying one Hard drive to Another is shown directly on the packaging box of Ghost 9.0, as they show a picture of the window where that option button is located, I'm pretty sure it should be able to do it...

I accepted your last input to close this issue. The case is not resolved... I'll continue to look, but it's not that important anymore, as I am considering other options.

Thanks again,

Claude

Rindi,

I found the reason why I wasn't seeing the Copy option button...

This option will appear only once the software has been activated...!

It just happens that I activated a copy of it, et voila! the darn little icon appears to let you create a clone!

I thought I'd let you know...

Bye
