Hi All,

I am following the tutorial on how to create and install a windows service at: http://abstractvb.com/code.asp?A=1082

I have completed it up until Installing The Service.

Type "InstallUtil C:\Myservice\Bin\Myservice.exe" Windows pops up a dialog box that says "Set Service Login" It asks for Username Password and Confirm Password.

I just typed in Kanan as the user name and 1234 as the password, however the install fails, here is the output

--------------------------output from VS.Net Command Prompt

C:\Documents and Settings\langinho\My Documents\Visual Studio Projects\Windows_S
ervice_001\bin>installutil windows_service_001.exe

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->Pauses here and displays prompt

An exception occurred during the Install phase.
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: No mapping between account names and security IDs was done

The Rollback phase of the installation is beginning.
See the contents of the log file for the c:\documents and settings\langinho\my documents\visual studio projects\windows_service_001\bin\windows_service_001.exe assembly's progress.
The file is located at c:\documents and settings\langinho\my documents\visual studio projects\windows_service_001\bin\windows_service_001.InstallLog.

   logfile = c:\documents and settings\langinho\my documents\visual studio projects\windows_service_001\bin\windows_service_001.InstallLog

The Rollback phase completed successfully.

The transacted install has completed.
The installation failed, and the rollback has been performed.

C:\Documents and Settings\langinho\My Documents\Visual Studio Projects\Windows_Service_001\bin>

I have no idea what to make of this error, or what I did wrong here.

Does anyone have an Idea or know of a better complete tutorial?

Thanks,
Kanan

the reason why it is failing is because when if it is poping up a user name and password, Unless u have an account on that pc it will crash. Username and password would be the administration account on the computer u are installing it too.

I tried putting in "Owner" as the username and the password for the account and I still get the:

An exception occurred during the Install phase.
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The account name is invalid or does not exist, or the password is invalid for the account name specified

Is Owner an accurate username?  I guess I'm lost on this.

Thanks,
Kanan

if xp what does the name of the user signed on when u tried to install ur program???  just for kicks if it is owner make sure that user has administration rights. Also assign a password for that user. Try that and them let me know

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

The OS is Windows XP, it's Owner that is signed in when I try to intall, I think it is the only user, and it has admin rights.

yes owner has a password, I put it in.

It does ask for the password twice, usualy that means that you are setting something.

It looks like the other posting is for automated install.
