MS says that if you have installed a pre-release version of Windows Server 2003 SP1, uninstall the pre-release version of the service pack, and then install the final product from the Download Center.

Have any of you had problems with the MS way or tried another way like installing of the pre-release?  What nightmares or goof ortune have you had?  Do you always recommend a full backup just before?

I've not had any problems uninstalling the pre-release and installing the official SP1 release.

I do know of issues removing pre-release SP1 depending on the build and the software installed on the server.

Since the pre-release of any MS product isn't installed on production servers, these servers could just be reinstalled.

Remember that once you install SP1 you cannot perform an in-place upgrade or a reinstall (without reformatting the drive) unless you use an intergared install disc (SP1 integrated into the base OS).

MS said uninstall pre-release SP1 before installing official SP1 Release.
Dell acknowleged SP! had a problem with it's Open Manage Software.

Upgrade to what? Do you mean OS?
