Have other USB devices ? Try to unplug them and then install the printer

and whick os do u use ? If u are using XP + SP2 , u can try to uninstall sp2 and then install the printer

The computer is running Windows XP Home Edition SP1.  I will try the installation with the only printer plugged in (although I think it's already been attempted on the customer’s computer).  I was thinking of reinstalling the Intel Chipset software and upgrading to Windows XP SP2 if that doesn't work.

I found some info maybe useful

Check the usbprint.sys and usbstor.sys files in ur computer ( that ought to be in %systemroot%\system32\drivers , if u can't find them, try to search them)

Check these two files' version to see if they're both higher than  5.1.2600

And if not, that should be the problem, u can download the newest ones from the URL below:
http://www.dynamiclink.nl/htmfiles/rframes/sys-u.htm

Have a try ,and good luck!
