HP Photosmart 2610 error: The specified port is unknown

ISSUE: HP Photosmart 2610 installation error: the specified port is unknown

- HP Photosmart Printer status in Device Manager: None found
- checked Printer, HP Office Jet
- Unplugged USB cable
- Uninstalled HP Photosmart 2610 drivers from computer using CD uninstall.bat
- Restarted computer
- Ran All-In-One 2610 setup program
- can not install hardware the specified port is unknown
- Installed Dell Resource CD
- Extracted USB Drivers to c:\dell\drivers\r42697
- Updated USB 2.0 Controller Drivers, failed
- Tried to update USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller driver: Failed
- Tried to update USB 2.0 Host Controller driver: Successful
- Uninstalled HP Photosmart 2610 drivers from computer using CD uninstall.bat
- Restarted computer
- Attempted to install HP Photosmart All-In-One 2610 setup (Typical Installation) - Connected printer USB cable in setup, error: (the specified port is unknown)

Have other USB devices ? Try to unplug them and then install the printer

and whick os do u use ? If u are using XP + SP2 , u can try to uninstall sp2 and then install the printer

The computer is running Windows XP Home Edition SP1. I will try the installation with the only printer plugged in (although I think it's already been attempted on the customer’s computer). I was thinking of reinstalling the Intel Chipset software and upgrading to Windows XP SP2 if that doesn't work.
