Multi-dimensional Container Arrays

I'm trying to find a way store object in a single container in a two-dimensional array.
In other words, jpanel.add(object) will only add it in a linear format. Although I can work with the data linearly, it adds a whole lot of clutter to my program.
Any suggestions?

Use a GridLayout

you'll still need to add the components linearly though.

I already have it in a gridlayout but I'm stuck with a linear add. I guess that was just verified by objects.
Thanks everyone.

Specifically, I wanted to do "Jagged" compoent arrays.

In the future, I needed to do these muli-diminsional arrays in which the data structure is not tied to the layout.
