Windows 2003 unexpectedley shutsdown

I have windows 2003 server and I am trying to copy some files from a CD to the hard drive. However, each time I do this the server restarts half way through the process. I have gong to "my computer"->properties->advanced and set the option not to automatically restart but it does so anyway.

There is nothing in the event logs to suggest what the error is. Also, when the server does restart the mouse is not active and I have to manually restart to get the mouse back on. It does the exact same thing each time. I have tried copying different files to different destinations but the same problem occurs.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The problem may be an updated driver, a patch, virus

if it's a driver problem, there is a recomandation to start the server in safe mode and try to reproduce the behavior, if the server doesn't reboot when in safe mode then compare the boot log (Ntbtlog.txt) the see witch driver is causing the problem.

If it's a patch (MS) then check since when it started to behave like this and check what path was installed.

Also it may be a virus also, msblast is causing similar reboot problems.

    Thanks corneliup,

I just needed a plan of action which you have provided above. Hopefully now I can work out what is causing this.
