I would suggest running a DCDiag on all of your domain controllers, running replmon and seeing if any DCs have errors, and rebooting the GCs listed on the Directory Services properties tab for your Exchange server.
Check the DNS entries on your Exchange server. If you have public DNS servers listed in the IP properties, take them out. Use only internal DNS for Exchange.

Thanks everybody.  OK im new to the sysadmin game so I may need step by steps.
1.  How do I run a DCDiag on my DC's.
2. How do I run replmom
3. What do you mean GC's?
4. where do I check for DNS entries on the Exchange Server?

Thank you!

If you are going to be administrating an enterprise system you should really take the time to teach yourself about the systems.  Telling you how to do these tasks and even how to interpret the results may help you today.  However, that would be a disservice to you and your employer.  What I will do instead is provide some links where you can read about the tool, what it does, and learn why you should run it.
I recommend that you install the suptools.msi from the Windows 2003 CD as well as download, install, and run the resource kit tools.

1 - DCDiag (Usage from Exchange c:\>dcdiag.exe /s:ADServer
 http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/library/TechRef/f7396ad6-0baa-4e66-8d18-17f83c5e4e6c.mspx

2. Replmon (Usage from an AD DC C:\>replmon.exe   If I remember correctly it is Tools...Check domain for errors).
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/library/TechRef/078506cf-1221-42de-a221-b1a0d1151fd6.mspx
3 - GC
Global Catalog...it's an AD thing.  It maintains a partial replica of objects within a forest.
While you are at it...it's not a bad time to learn about the FSMO roles...

Thanks for the tips - training is in progress.  For today and hence why I posted a question with EE I need to know how to run these tasks and how to interpret the results.  And more importantly - I need more detail about what this error means and if its somthing I need to be seriously worried about.

Thanks
Byrca

Read through the links, perform the tests, and post the results (if you want).

Anybody got anything else to add to this please?

Hi there....

Can you explain what a 'clustered exchange environment is'?  I am still getting these errors.  We have three domains in a 2003 active directory forest. The 'First administrative group' was set up incorrectly i.e it was setup first then the three servers were setup underneath that instead of each exchange server having its own 'administrative group'.   I dont have the option to right click on the 'first administrative group' as the article says.

Does anybody know why I keep getting the errors and if I can 'safely ignore' them...

Thanks
Cat

There are no servers down and my three global catalogue servers are ok too.  Is there anyway to test connectivity between Exchange and the GC?  Or between Exchange and the FSMO role holder?
Install the Windows support tools on the system.  From that directory run
dcdiag /s:GCName

you may also want to run repadmin locally on those systems.

I would check the domain controllers for errors in the event logs.

Does the DCDIAG post any results - its just an exe file - but doesnt show any results....
If you run the dcdiag with the /s:, as listed above, it will return a set of results similar to the ones which have already been posted when ran directly on the DC.

OK. Can you tell me if I run REPADMIN.EXE from Exchange do I need to enter anything else?  Do I need to specify the DC names?
You should run repadmin from the Domain Controllers.

Again, as I mentioned above, spending the $245 or $295 to call Microsoft may be well worth it.
