Hi ,
I am (was) running IIS 6.0 and I opened Metabase.xml using wordpad just to check what was in there. Now it got corrupted and I cannot start IIS. Could somebody email me a clean copy at amit_pcjain@yahoo.com. Or point me to a location form where i can download it or let me know how can I reinstall IIS 6.0 withour reformatting the entire machine

When you install IIS 6.0 it *automatically* makes a backup of the Metabase at the end of a successful installation.  You should be able to restore this using the Backup/restore configuration from the management console.  If this backup was not created then IIS was not successfully installed in the first place and it is unlikely that replacing the Metabase will make any difference.

If you need ro reinstall IIS simply uncheck Application Server in Winods Components from Add/Remove Programs, let the setup finish, re-check the box and then let setup finish again.  A fresh Metabase will be generated and no needto reinstall Windows.

Just to check though, are there any files in the c:\windows\system32\inetsrv\metaback directory?

iisback /restore /b Initial Backup - created automatically by IIS setup.MD1

and

iisback /restore /b Initial Backup - created automatically by IIS setup.SC1

are not working. They say that "The IIS Admin scripts only support IIS 6.0."

Instead of this:

iisback /restore /b Initial Backup - created automatically by IIS setup.MD1

try this:

iisback /restore /b Initial Backup - created automatically by IIS setup
