Create a formula field:
@TextMonth
If {MyTable.MonthField} = 1
Then "January"
Else
If {MyTable.MonthField} = 2
Then "February"
Else.
.....
If {MYTable.Month.Field} = 12
Then "December"

As for the first question:
What do you mean?

Would you like to see a *row*number or do you really mean *record*number.
The latter is kinda impossible in a crosstab, since data in each cell is data based on a combination of record...

For 2nd question, another option...

Create a formula like this:

MonthName({MyTable.Monthfiield})

If you would like the abbreviated monthnames, use this:

MonthName({MyTable.Monthfiield}, TRUE)
