Hello,

Currently our Exchange Server runs on a 2 node cluster and I am currently building an SMTP server, which requires
the deafult SMTP Virtual Server to point to the SMTP Gateway.

I know you can put the IP address in the "Smart Host", to forward all mail to the SMTP Gatewa, but do you leave
the FQDN name the same "Exchange.domain.co.uk", do you have to put this in the MASQUERADE Domain?

What does the Masquerade domain do?

This step-by-step article describes how to specify a masquerade name for a domain. A masquerade domain replaces the local domain name in any Mail From lines in the message header.

In response to the large amounts of spam email circulating around the Internet many mailservers now refuse to accept mail from other mailservers if the IP address of the connecting mailserver doesn't have an associated DNS domain name which matches the name it supplies during the SMTP protocol exchange.
Irrespective of the name of the email domains your server is hosting, in System Manager,  you should go to Default SMTP Virtual Server - Properties - Delivery - Advanced and set the Masquerade domain to the DNS name of the external IP address. If your external IP address is 123.123.123.123 then, to find the DNS name, in a Command Prompt window type:-
nslookup 123.123.123.123
If a DNS name hasn't been assigned to your IP address then complain to your ISP and get them to assign one. If your server is operating behind a group of IP addresses, any of which it might use, and each with a different DNS name then it's likely the DNS name for these addresses will only differ if the leftmost part of the DNS name. Just choose one DNS name to set as the Masquerade Domain and other mailservers should accept this as close enough when mail is sent via one of the other IP addresses.
