hi
what is the os version on client and server?
pcAnywhere supports three levels of encryption:
pcAnywhere encryption
Symmetric encryption
Public key encryption
have you setup any of these? and is it same on both ends?

right, is the server running ICF? the default pcAnywhere port numbers are 5631 (Data Port or TCP) and 5632 (Status Port or UDP, is that setup as well? it could be firewall encryption which is being removed when the connection is made, bcoz pcanywhere negotiate encryption when creating connection!

No, i still think its removing encryption which pcanywhere doesnt need when making connection. Encryption from firewall, and then the internet connection firewal and its own encryption.
