SNMP protocol

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody can help me resolve this issue. Viewing firewall log shows that this computer has excessive suspcisiou SNMP traffic. When I go to that computer trying to disabled it under computer management -> service and application -> services there is no protocl listed with SNMP/Simple Network Management Protocol. So, how can this be?

HI
Click on Start | Settings | Control Panel.
Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
Click on Add/Remove Windows Components.
Click on Management and Monitoring Tools and click on Details.

see if snmp is enabled there, disable it by unchecking the seletion box

check your network card settings,

check if you have third party software running, disable it

cheers

I agree with Nizarahmed - the first place to look would be:

Right click on network places, then right click on your network connection select properties.

Look for SNMP and untick it. Then click OK and / or close.

Alternatively if you cant see SNMP then just disable file and printer sharing on your internet connection (follow setps above) and that should solve the problem.

Restart your computer to ensure that the settings take effect.

Hope this helps :)

I have tried the above suggestion. But log still showing that it is comming from that computer eveyr 13 seconds. There is no snmp service in network connection properties and the snmp service is not installed in Windows Component. What else can be doing this?

Nicolas
what version of windows you got? is your pc congigured with wins, dns, IIS or dhcp, as a server or client?
Windows 2000 pro.

I resolved the issue by reinstalling tcp/ip, client for ms net, file and printer sharing

work fine now
glad to know that.
good luck
