how to list all the table names in a db from (any sys)?

    select * from sysobjects where type = 'u' will give you the tables.

    If you go to the following link you can download a chm file
    that describes all the sql system tables and what is inside each of them.

    It is not a good practice to query sysobjects.
    These are system tables.



    to get the table listing.

    Look at other INFORMATION_SCHEMA views for your convenience.
