child dialog vs popup?

what's the difference between a child dialog and a popup dialog?

I currently have a dialog set as 'popup' style, and when I minimize the main dialog the popup gets minimized too. I want to be able to leave the popup up even when the main dialog is minimized. How could I do this?

thanx!

Child window is a window in which you can access( or can move) that window with in the window main region only

whereas popup window is just a  window that popups on particular functionality. Example showing about dlg  in most of the applications

for your other answer

reference the same window as parent while creating the child window
MyDlg* dlg=new MyDlg;
dlg->Create(IDD_MYID,dlg);
dlg->ShowWindow (SW_SHOW);

then you can see the child window will not be minimized while you minimize your main window

Hi there,

A child dlg is like a control while popup dlg are normal Dialog Box , so that you can move it freely.
Child Dlg will have a parent window and normally dont have any captiobn bar while normally the
popup dlg will have the caption bar.

The behaviour you are getting because you are using Modal Dlg Box:
Create the ModeLess Dlg as suggested by Mr. Sudhakar.

sudhakar_koundinya,

in your example, which is the parent and which is the child?

so are you suggesting that I change my style from popup to a child window?
