A kludgy way could be csv -> csv if there's no embedded stuff there

A 'proper' way would be to read it with the OOo api and write it with POI

Don't think can use csv, mine require charts and other formatting.
I thought POI is to write MS Excel?
Can we use POI to convert OpenOffice Spreadsheet to MS Excel?

Then you're right - CSV is out

>>I thought POI is to write MS Excel?

Yes? This would seem appropriate...

Can't Calc save as xls?

The open office api may well already include that functionaility, would check their first.

POI won't help you.

If OpenOffice doesn't have an export option then havce a look at these alternatives.

It would seem so:

(From http://linuxlab.dk/learnlinux/exercises/fall2002/ooo/)

>>With "OpenOffice.org Calc", you can make spreadsheets in and save as "Excel" format

Therefore it's pretty likely you can get the OOo api to do this

Already mentioned that ;)

If you have something to add then post it, 'implying' it doesn't really help anyone.

CEHJ, OpenOffice.org Calc "can" save as xls, However I can't use this because it requires manual work.
Is there a way to convert it using the OOo api?

I've tried to use POI, but the chart support for excel is not good enough.
Jintegra (http://j-integra.intrinsyc.com/) is very good, but the licence is amazingly expensive.

Basically, What I need to do is to use Java to generate OpenOffice.org Calc report, which I need to convert and display as xls for Windows user.

I don't use the api myself, but it's pretty likely you can do it if you can do it with the app

What do you mean by the implication?

Means he didn't actually suggest it :-D

This:

If the application can do it - it's pretty likely that the api can

It means that it's too obvious to take the trouble to state it other than to say:

>>Can't Calc save as xls?

Whether Calc can save to Excel does not necessarily imply that the API can, and it seems it was not in anyway obvious otherwise we wouldn't be wasting our time discussing this now :)
And in the same comment you actually suggested using a different API that did not support what was required to make it even more confusing what you were on about.
If you explicitly state what you mean its a lot clearer for all involved.

It means

a. there's a pretty good chance it can.
b. the possibitily should therefore be investigated by looking at the api docs

Which is what I said already :-D

I think the link posted by objects is the answer, thanks to CEHJ too for guiding to the API exporting possibility.
Will explore into more details.
