I do not get the option for "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" when trying to create a linked server from my MS SQL server to another MS SQL server, i have the options for Oracle and all the others but not MS SQL server.

Running on XP Professional, with SQL 2000 Personal editon.

Tried to install MDAC 2.8, and the opertaing system will not allow this as it informs me that it(OS) handles it instead.

    Accepted Solution

The SQL Server optionis just above in the dialog box - there is a radion button that says "SQL Server", you don't have to choose it from the list of OLE DB providers.
