settext or setitem won't display text

I'm trying everthing possible to get text to appear in a textbox in a datawindow control.   For other windows when I have setcolumn(1) followed by settext(), the value appears in the column on the datawindow control and the Accepttext() adds it to the query.

But for this particular window, the value won't appear.  Even when I try dw.object.suffix_cd[1] = "A",
"A" not only won't appear, but AcceptText() won't recognize its existence.

Am I missing something?

That won't do it.  I just found the answer, though.   There is a protect property with the each column name of the datawindow.  Protect was set to 1 for those fields I was trying to write to.

hi,

i dont think if protect property is set to 1 u cannot set text to ur column...

i wud be surprised if thats the reason ur dw.object.suffix_cd[1] = "A" code wasnt working...

just check if u have made any other changes also...

Cheers,
Rosh

Have you tried using the setItem function instead.

dw.setItem(1, "suffix_cd", "A").

I am no longer in the Powerbuilder environment.  I appreciate the responses, but I've taken a new position 3 months ago and haven't had time to even log into this.

I have asked for this question to be closed in the past, but it was not, and it would be nice to have an extra link or button to close or delete a question.

Understood, wydrom.  The problem is that once Experts have commented on a question, the question can't simply be deleted without giving the participating Experts a chance to object if they feel they have given a correct answer, for example.

Therefore, a question like this must be reviewed and closed by a Moderator.  As outlined in the EE guidelines (http:/help.jsp#hi70 - one of the options located at the link I provided above), if you answer your own question, you can request that the question be closed in http:/Community_Support/.

From what I understand, the upcoming update of EE will include a streamlined procedure for requesting question closures, domething long the lines of a button that automates the request.
