Not sure if this is possible - If it is can someone help me convert this ! ? ! ?

ok taking into consideration these 2 questions on EE :
1st Question ( taking into consideration my last comment with regards to converting the vbscript to a batch file or something to that extent ) :

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/WinXP/Q_21236913.html#13824901

2nd Question (vbscript to attain windows xp key ):

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Programming/Q_21382849.html

Can anyone out there convert this vbscript into something that would basically run in dos when the machine wont boot up so that it can read the relevant reg key and save the windows xp key to a text file and or display it on screen.

This is prolly a really tough question and if it needs breaking down into more questions, please let me know !

Thanks and kind regards

Hi Shane,

is this what you're after?

for /f "skip=4 tokens=2 delims=Z" %T in ('reg query hklm\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion /v ProductID') do @echo %T>CD_Key.txt& type CD_Key.txt

That works for me; it is ran from the DOS Command Line. If you run it from a batch file, then you must double-up the percentage signs, like so:

for /f "skip=4 tokens=2 delims=Z" %%T in ('reg query hklm\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion /v ProductID') do @echo %%T>CD_Key.txt& type CD_Key.txt

What it will then do, is output the Key to both a file (which in this case is called 'CD_Key.txt'), it will then output the content of the file to the screen -- so, you both get output both to a file *and* to the screen simultaneously (well, so it appears).

I want the DigitalProductID decoded so it gives you the windows xp cd key, NOT this :

#####-OEM-#######-#####

# = Numbers obviously

I need it to return the serial key ( installation key for the current installation )

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

Sorry, but I can only extract the hexadecimal format of the key.. And this cannot be converted into another notation (such as binary), without the use of an external application.

ie; this cannot be done just with DOS!  :-(

Cant the hexadecimal format of the key be converted to the actual installation cd key ?

Not with just DOS.. you need an external for this.

r-k, Shane already has that code.

NO - I wanted it originally to work within dos or a dos prompt to somehow ascertain the windows digitalproductid and return or give you the cd key ( if you look at my 2nd Q ie the PAQ now ) it has the source code you posted - which was then converted to vbscript ;)

I mean even if you some how do something similiar to what that hive floppy disk does just to copy the digital product id to a file or reg file and then use simmiliar coding like in the vbscript to decode it to the serial key, wouldnt that work ?
