External drive enclosure for Toshiba 1.8 inch disk drive

Any body know where I can find one?
I have tried online and can't find anybody that has such a beast in stock.

I have a customer that had a HD upgraded in his notebook to a 60 from a 40 ,and he didn't get all the files off of it.
I don't want to tear it apart(10.4 inch Sony laptop) just to get a few files off of the old drive .
So any ideas?

I called them.
Their enlcosure won't work with a Toshiba (female connector).
It seems like Toshiba is the only one doing it like that.

Is the drive connector the same size as that of a 2.5" drive?  A gender changer would provide the solution then: http://www.cablesonline.net/44pinlapinri.html

A normal notebook drive is 2.5", not 1.8".

Most of the Toshiba 1.8" drives were PC Cards, which you could put into any laptop's PC Card slot (I'm talking about the slots that some people still call "PCMCIA slots").  That would allow easy access to the drive.

Nope, not PCMCIA ,I already looked at that.

The newer 1.8 inch drives come installed a the new small footprint Sony's and Apple iPod's.
I have adapters for 2.5's.

I did find something on Toshiba's site (go figure) @ $69.00 that looks as if it will work.

So it looks as if I might have found the answer, but won't know till it's shipped.

I will leave this question open until I know for sure

All ready talked to those folks too.
They said will only work with Hitachi 1.8.

Ok, see if by any chance those drives are actually "Compact Flash" format, and are compatible with the "compact flash" cards (and, more importantly, readers for them) that are used as film in digital cameras.  (seems like a long shot, CF isn't quite 1.8" wide).

Also, search E-Bay (ALWAYS search E-Bay !!).  For example, I found this:

[Toshiba enclosure for $12.95]

I think that the one I found on E-Bay is the one that you want.  Toshiba, 1.8-inch, USB, $12.95, buy-it-now (no auction), and he has 46 of them available.

I see it ,but before I buy I need to ask if will specfically work with 1.8 and I can't find a phone number.

It's a Toshiba enclosure (actually made by Toshiba) for a Toshiba 1.8" drive, so I can't imagine it not working.

On E-Bay, you communicate with the seller by E-Mail.  Look in the Seller Information box on the right side of the auction page, and there is a link called "ask the seller a question".

I take that back, the enclosure is not made by Toshiba.  But I think it pretty clearly is made forToshiba 1.8" drives.
