Laserjet 1200 USB Print Server Problem

I have a LJ1200 hooked up to a hawking print server through a USB cable. I can see the printer and print to it, at first- after about 5 minutes I hear the printer make a clicking sound and after that I can't print to the printer anymore. I assume this is some sort of sleep mode the printer goes into. If I restart the print server, I can print again.  Since there is no display on the printer, I'm not sure how to, or if I even can disable the "Sleep Mode" . Should I change to an HP Print Server?

It may be possible to adjust this value from within the Printer Properties windows, under "Device Settings" or "Advanced" -> "Printing Defaults".

Most Print Servers are manageable (Partially. at least). Open Internet Explorer, type the Print Server's IP address and press Enter. Once the interface has loaded, look for an "Energy Saver" or "Idle Time Out" option. and try resetting it to a period of time that suits you best.
Whether this solves the problem or not, I always recommend HP Print Servers to my customers.

    Accepted Solution

try setting spooling to "start printing after the last page has spooled"
    this will reduce timeout problems.
