Domino Server

I'm after some suggestions about how to proceed with this one if at all possible...

We have a Domino Server (4.6.7) running on Windows NT 4.0 which runs a database. It used to do more, but it wasn't really all that good at it.

Basically... it's a mess and none of us know really how to administer / reconfigure / fix / rebuild it. The one database that people require access to often results in an "Invalid or Non-Existent Document" message appearing in the Notes Client (version 6).

The problem is, I don't even know where to begin trying to figure out what is wrong with the server or how to at least make its last months with us as comfortable as possible.

One thing... upgrading to a newer version of Domino server is neither practical nor desirable. After that, suggestions or questions would be appreciated.

    Accepted Solution

As a start I would try to update and fix the database of any corruption it may have. At the server run the following lines at the Notes Console. Wait for each to complete before going to the next line.

    load updall <databasefilename>.nsf -R
    load fixup <databasefilename>.nsf -L -F
    load compact <databasefilename>.nsf -D
    load compact <databasefilename>.nsf -C

Another thing you should do is while in the database itself select any view and depress <CTRL><SHIFT><F9> to update the views.

That should reindex, remove corruption, and perform the necessary maintenance on the specific database.

Just a quick note... haven't forgotten about this... just haven't managed to get enough time to play with it.

I'll get it done next week and hopefully award the points.
