Lotus Notes emaill will not remember the last email selected. Selection resets to the top every time a message is closed.

Lotus Notes V 6.5.1

This is an extrememly nitpicky issue but I would appreciate any help in resolving it.

Here is the situation:

A client of mine uses Lotus notes for email.  On the office computer whenever he selects an email to view and opens the message, then closes the message, the last message he had selected is still highlighted.
At home, after he closes a message the highlighted selection returns to the top of the Inbox thus losing his place in the emails.

If you do not understand the question please comment and I will try to clarify.  Ultimately Lotus Notes is not retaining the position of the selection.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

I haven't seen this problem before, but here's what I'd try (in order):

1.  While in the database, press <CTRL><SHIFT><F9> to rebuild the indexes of all views.  It's possible there's a corrupt index that's causing the selection margin to have trouble finding where it left off.  Try scenario and see if it works.

2.  Try closing the database then go to the Notes Workspace.  Delete the mail database icon from the workspace (just the icon, not the database itself!).  Then right click on the workspace and choose Workspace properties.  Click the beanie-hat tab (2nd tab) and choose Compact.  Once finished, open the database again and see if you get the same results.

3.  If at home he is using a replica copy of the database, try deleting the replica database and workspace icon, and re-replicating the database from the server.

4.  If all else fails, completely delete Notes from the home machine and start from scratch.  It's extreme, but sometimes it solves issues.

I have a similar thing when I delete multiple mails at the end of the list: maisl are deleted and the selection jumps to the top of the screen, not the first mail in the Inbox. Pretty annoying, but one learns to live with it. I don't know if there's a solution, so I'd like to know the answer myself.
