Network problems, slow link or hub/switch/cables. First, try disabling STP on switch.

Can any harm occur from disabling STP??? I don't have a loop but could there arise new problems???

    Accepted Solution

Disabling STP shouldn't hurt anything, but if it causes issues, you can renenable it
I assume you have AD setup, did you install the DS Client on the 98 boxes?;EN-US;249841
On the XP boxes, enable NetBIOS over tcp (from the tcp properties, advanced, WINS tab)
and check the authentication level on the DC, lower it to check
