I am trying to find a way to use php to connect to a PHP database using phpBB2 for a bloackboard. Anyway this is my system configuration.

1 Linux Server : name LinuxBox
OS: RedHat 8.0

2 Win 2K domain controllers
Domain Name confused.com

Primary DC
Name severa

secondary DC
Name serverb
MS Sql 2000

I have tried numerous times to use freetds and am trying to find a way to do this and there are know real clear directions. i am now trying to find a way to do this using ODBC for Linux to windows any ideas please let me know thanks.

your phpBB2  comes with detailed instructions how to configure your web server and your database server.
In your topology it could be all on one machine, that's LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) then, see for example http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html (there are some others too).

I don't see a need for your DCs.
If you mean that phpBB2 should use MSSQL as database, then please check your docs, but I guess that this is rather unusal (and highly insecure too).

PHPBB2 has an option to use an MSSQL or MSSQL ODBC database. I want to do this becuase someone said it can be done and I can't do it. this makes my life kind of iritating
