Service starting unexpectedly

We have a service installed and setup as "Automatic".  However, when we stop the service manually, we find that it is started a couple minutes later, when we expect it to stay down.  Why would a service start on its own, when it has been shut down?  I thought "Automatic" meant that it should start automatically after server reboot.

    Accepted Solution

If the service is set to manual it may be automatically restarted if another service is dependent on it, but if the service is set to disabled it will not restart even if it's required to boot the machine!

    Hope this helps,

    As a side note:
To check if the service is dependent on another. Go to it's properties from services and check out the dependencies tab.
