Migrating Hardware in windows 2003

Ok we are replacing our current domain controler / exchante 2003 server i would like the new server to keep the same computer name of the existing server but i need to migrate the exchange mailboxs from old to new so is it possible to name the new server the same as the old join it to the domain and then migrate the mailboxes ? after the migrate the new will be promoted to the domain controler the old will be reforated to be SQL box.  Thanks

also is there a good how to that explains the best way to do this?   We are also using roming profiles and redirected folders whats the best way to migrate this to a new box.

You can not have two computers with the same name on the network at the same time. If that is a requirement then I can see no other option but prepare the new server with OS and all necessary programs then during off hours take a full backup of the old server and restore it on the new server where you do not overwrite files then demote the old DC connect the new server and promote it to DC

hmm well i guess i can rename if if needed but how do i migrade the redirected folders to the new server and keep every thing in tacked.

If you decide to give it a new name you can move all data in the shares to the new server then create the shares and as a last thing change your login script that makes the mapping

Since it involves also exchange it would be easier and with a lot less stressful to instal exchange on the new server and move the users over to the new server
