I cannot access the internet while VPNed into my comapnys network

I cannot access the internet while VPNed into my comapnys network. I have ensured that 'Automatically detect settings' is not selected and that 'Use a proxy server for this connection' is selected, the port is set to 80 and the address is the name of the corresponding proxy server. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Rory

Hello, Rory!
What kind of VPN are we talking here? Microsoft PPTP? Other client software?
Can you ping the proxy server by IP address and/or by name while connected to the VPN?
Are you *supposed* to be able to connect and use the proxy?

If you are using Microsoft's built in VPN client it does not allow for split tunnelling - therefore you can only have a VPN tunnel and not VPN and internet tunnels.

Hi Jason, I am to using vpn into my companies network. Most other people in the company have no problem surfing the net while connected to the vpn.

Thanks,
Rory
What client are you using for VPN connectivity?

Jason
We are using PPTP
Configured via My Network Places in the OS?
In your client dialer setup, do you have TCP/IP properties , "use default gateway on remote network" checked ?
It needs to be...
Yup
Are you still working on this?
Have you found a solution?
Do you need more information?

Thanks for your attention!
I appoligize for my lack of response to this question. I have been on vacation for the last week. We did find a solotion to this problem. Turns out that if we put the external ipaddress of our VPN server into the persons hosts file, VPN worked fine. Thanks for all you your help!
