Installing HDD Maxtor D740X-6L

I am trying to install a Maxtor HDD D740X-6L 80GB on a P2 motherboard to run Win 98SE.  My BIOS does not auto-detect the drive and I would like to know if anyone can tell me the drive properties, cylinders, heads and sectors.  I have looked at but cannot find the drive listed anywhere. I understand this particular hard drive has particular recognition problems and I would be grateful for any relevant advice.
Thanks for all your advice.  I have bought a RAID card on Ebay, as advised by Dabrain, but should I just use a straight IDE controller. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-BX2000 with a Pentium 3 MMX CPU @ 500mhz.  It is also Dual Bios. Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG.  On my last attempt at booting I received the error message Main Bios is Wide Range Protection Error! and the hard disk light stays on permanently. Advice on setting up a RAID card much appreciated.
