Getting a new Addin for Visual Studio to load

Posted on 2005-04-25

I have created an add-in using the wizard. I do F5 to run it and a new VS starts up. The new Add-in is in the Tools menu.

I exit the second VS and press F5 again. The new Add-in is still available from the Tools menu.

Up till now everything is as it should be.

I then exit VS and start it again, loading the new Add-in. When I press F5 I get an error saying the Add-in’s DLL cannot be copied because it is in use.

I opened the Add-in Manager and cleared the Loaded and Start-up checkboxes. I then exited VS and started it again, loading the new Add-in.

From now on, whatever I do, I cannot get the new Add-in to be available again.

I've found the answer myself. You have to double click the file that ends with .REG in the addin's directory.
This was not needed in the .net framework version 1.0 but is in 1.1
