A ghost compatability question

I wonder if any of the experts have tried to use ghost 9.0 to back up their hard drive
using the dual layer 9.4 gig optical drive together with dual layer dvd-r media for the backup
I have a 16x Benq dual layer dvd drive and I have also purcheased Ritek dual layer dvd-r media
and I also plan to buy Norton ghost 9.0 shortly  , but I think ghost won't be able to recognize dual layer but I am not 100% certain , hence my question to the experts ..
I suppose I  could always use plain old dvd-r , but Its extra bother to use multiple dvd's and thats why I bought the dual layer drive in the first place ,
I took it for granted that its no different then standard dvd drive as far as being recognized by ghost.
I also heard that retrospect pro 7.0 is compatable with dual layer technology , and I think probably acronis true image , but I only want to use Norton Ghost 9.0 , I have researched those other two and I prefer Ghost 9.0 to those other two.

According to Symantec's support area on this, any drive listed in GEAR Software's supported list is supported by Ghost 9.0.   GEAR apparently is responsible for the drive support in Norton's product line.

http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/recorders/index.cfm

Go to the above link, and see if your SPECIFIC make and model is listed.    If it is, you should be fine.

So, a curious followup- was YOUR drive listed...?

No it was not listed and I could not seem to figure out other options they offered , I have a benq 1620 dvdrw dual layer , I wrote to symantec and they told me the same thing that you did .
so I expect to get ghost 9.0 soon and I bought this dual layer dvdrw with the intention of backing up my whole hardrive to one disk , but I guess I will not be able to do it for now anyway .. I heard Nero 6.6 lastest version out this month supports dual layer and retrospect 7.0 supports dual layer and I heard ghost 2003 supports dual layer but symantec says the Norton Ghost ( really powerquest drive image 7.0 just renamed) does not support dual layer . Drive image came out in 2001 or 2002 way before anyone ever heard of dual layer dvdrw drives .....

Nero is really good stuff.     If you get the ultra edition, it has a backup feature....

Yes I know , I think its called copyit , but It won't do a mirror image backup
There is only three products that can do that , retrospect, acronis true image and norton ghost

Is the ultra edition the 6.6 version for about one hundred bucks ??

You can get a *real* (not hacked) downloadable serial number from nero.com for $79.99.    In my opinion, it's well worth it.    There's only 3 "tool" software packages that I use ona regular basis that I felt was well worth paying for.   Nero is one of them.

Don't waste the additional 20 bucks on media.   Nero is updated often enough to make it stupid to order CD's anyway.
