Upgrading 2000 domain controller to 2003 domain controller

I have a Windows 2000 DC in a single DC domain.  I am going to upgrade to Windows 2003 DC on same machince after first running the forestprep and domain prep.  I have on another 2000 server, Engchange 2003 running.   Will my upgrade effect negatively my Exchange 2003 box?

here is a great article that explains a real world in place 2000 to 2003 migration.  Yes you do have to do a little more if there is an exchange server involved.  The link below has a link straight to MSs site that explains what you need to do if you have exchange involved.  The author of this article makes it sound as if it is really hard if you have exchange involved but it really isn't.  All you have to do is do the steps in the MS article and you should be OK, there really isn't that much to it, the MS article is just long b/c it covers so many different situations:

If Exchange is not on a DC, you'll likely be just fine.  It only get's dicey when on a DC since the schema changes.

Incidently, you do not need to run Adprep first, since it's an upgrade this step will run on it's own.

Be sure not to change the Forest and Domain functional levels from their default of WIndows 2000 Mixed to anything more than Windows 2000 Native or you will lose the 2000 server if it's a DC.

the same is true for exchange 2003, the point is you have to prepare the 2000 AD schema for the 2003 AD schema.  There is basically a flaw in the 2000 version of AD so some attribute names have to be corrected before you upgrade to 2003.  This flaw only effects you if you are running exchange (any level). So fixing the flaw will fix it, period! regardless of if you are running exchange 2000 or exchange 2003. Remember, the flaw is in AD, not exchange so the version of exchange is really irrelevant.

so to summerize.  I can leave the Exchange 2003 server alone while I  upgrade the dc from 2000 to 2003?

assuming that the exchange 2003 server isn't a DC, yes.
