Embedded MySQL in VB.NET?

Hi. I have a desktop research application that needs very high query performance.

Currently, I am testing Mirosoft Acess vs. Client-Server MySQL and Access is outperforming due to Client-Server limitations.

I'm hoping to try out Embedded MySQL... but I'm using VB.NET.

Any ideas?

I need a basic walkthrough on how to setup my "testing" program to test out Embedded MySQL.

I don't want to send you off on a wild goose chase, but if you are looking for an embedded system, then SQLite might serve you better. It's specifically designed for this purpose and it's really easy to set up:

See here for a list of .NET related interoperability:

It still surprises me that MySQL is slower than Access. Can you provide a sample query? Are you using indexes?

Select Date, Price from Full where Symbol = 'INTC'

    yep, using indexes.

I think the issue is the unavoidable overhead in a client-server setup - even on the same computer.

Server-File relationship is much faster apparently.

I'll check those links out as soon as I get time. Thanks!

What have I found out about this?

MSDE is probably a better option...

MySQL embedded seems to be C/C++ oriented... though I'm sure there is a way to get it going with VB.NET

So, no real answer, but here's a few pts crack =)
