ARE YOU THE ONE?

Ok, so i am pissing around on the net thinking up crazy things and i start thinking about registering some binary addresse and using them to guide some of my lemmings around on my normal games.

So i start pluggiong in addresses and one is allready taken. its the binary for A.

I go to the site and their is a note for some sort of game/hunt.

so any way does any one know what it is?

This site is registered to a John Hutchins in Florida.  The email handle (wordherder1) for the registered address gets Google hits for only two pages.

1) Kind of odd: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RussianArms/message/777
2) A personal web site for a Chris Hutchins in Florida: http://www.chrishutchins.com/contact.html

Both domains (the one you saw and chrishutchins.com) were registered within about 15 days of each other with catalog.com, a free hosting company.

The biggest link I see, is a reference on chrishutchins.com that talks about him building the site in Netscape Composer (http://www.chrishutchins.com/contact.html).  The GENERATOR on both sites is identical. Netscape on a Macintosh-not a common GENERATOR these days! Given Chris Hutchins is a graphic designer and probably uses a Mac, I would guess that he is the original owner and author of the site you found.

That's all I got.

http://www.01000001.com brings up the extra "The A in Main" in firefox address bar search dropdown

I picked this off as well, looks like John Hutchings in a relative to Chris Hutchins

The "A" in main, that would suggest that there are also an "M", "I", and "N". This is odd seing as the man's name is "J"ohn Hutchins... Perhaps this is a fake name? Or..more likely, this is just the site for a new game that someone is developing, or abandoned. Other than the WHOIS information posted above, I have'nt been able to find anymore information on this...will continue to look though...very interesting.

Looks to me like it was/is a one-off weblink to a larger scale RL Treaure-hunt type game.

Has anyone else noticed that www.01000001.com is registered to "John" Hutchins (http://www.whois.sc/01000001.com), but everyone keeps citing his personal webpage as ChrisHutchins.com ? Okay, so ChrisHutchins.com is actually registered to "Chris" Hutchins (http://www.whois.sc/ChrisHutchins.com), and www.01000001.com is registered to "John" Hutchins. Two diferent names, but the email address is the same. So, are John and Chris the same person, or two seperate people? Perhaps, ChrisHutchins has nothing to do with www.0100001.com and thats why there no ne is finding any leads at his site.

Is the text font or hand-written? Certainly the website deisgn is very similar (if a bit more basic on www.01000001.com than www.chrishutchins.com): White hand-written-style text on a black background.

In answer ot my own question, a quick look suggests that www.ChrisHutchins.com is hand-wirting, whereas www.01000001.com is just script-style font.

Does the referance to "Prophecy" mean anything to anyone? "You won't be in Prophecy much longer"?

Hey, everyone. It's JC Hutchins, owner of 010000001.com. I wanted to make a contribution to the discussion.

First off: Thanks, willa, for dropping me a line and informing me of your post. That was very cool of you. And thanks to you guys --stengelj, Xxavier, WileE, Xestrix and SWOne -- for noodling over the contents of 010000001.com, and trying to make some sense of it.

Now on to the good stuff. Based on the above replies to willa's post, Xestrix and SWOne were/are closest to guessing the reason behind the website. 010000001.com is kinda part of a game. It's more like a plot point, as you guys inferred. However the plot point isn't ... and won't ... be a part of a traditional game/scavenger hunt. It's actually part of a novel that I've written. In my novel, our heroes are tracking the villain and are directed to a website -- yeah, you guessed it: 010000001.com. There, they read instructions from the villain.

I'm currently shopping this novel to agents, in hopes of getting it published. I purchased the "real world" URL 01000001.com in the hopes that it might be visited one day by curious readers of my novel. (You know, to see if the webpage was real. I thought this would create a nice fiction-meets-reality moment for the reader; a nice little wink from me to them.) I posted the "Dear Betas" message on the site for ****s and giggles, pure self-amusement. Amazingly, willa found it waaaaay ahead of schedule! You guys have actually stumbled across an excerpt of my unpublished book. Here's hoping my novel -- tentatively titled "7th Son" -- finds its way to bookshelves. Wish me luck.

In the meantime, I want you guys to know that you made my week, re: this thread. Thanks again for trying to figure out the contents of 01000001.com, and for posting your ideas. It brought a smile to my face, knowing that my insignificant webpage generated some intrigue and interest. You guys rock! Drop me a line with any q's/comments if you wish. Take care!

Hi John

Well its not the underground treasure hunt that i was secretly want to unveil and then follow, But still it is a great idea to  expand on your future novel. I love all that sort of stuff. Like the last time i was in Paris and started looking around for the land marks and items detailed in the Davinci code. LOL

Good luck with book and you can always come back to this thread in the future and tell us how it is going.

once again good luck and thank you so much for coming on EE and posting your explanation! :)
