Screensaver problems

I just built a network of 11 Windows XP Pro workstations and a Windows Server 2003. It is set up as a domain and there seemed to be no problems whatsoever. Until the users turned up and wanted to change their scrensavers!

I now find, on all 11 workstations, that as soon as I go to the display proeperties and click on the screensave tab - the computer freezes completely and needs a 'hard' restart.

All workstations have a proprietary software (ScoutNET) installed and this may well be the cause. The problem did not appear before installing ScoutNETbut then again, I didn't trytochange the screensaver of course!

I will be doing some more troubleshooting tomorrow and will report back.

Anyone ever seen this before?

Do you have any Policies applied? If you do SBS and do a default install then you do.

I didn't actually create any policies - just a simple 2003 Server installation. No obvious problems in the Group Police Editor.

I connected my laptop to the network last night in the same way I did with all the workstations and no problems as yet. I guess I'll install the software one pice at a time and see where things start going downhill.

AAAAaaaarrrgggghhh.

The SiS VGA driver that installed automatically with Windows XP causes the computer to lock when you try to select any of the four, 3d Window Screensavers.

Driver on the installation disk cured it.

You learn something new every day.....

Panic over.
