Printing via (IFS or NFS).

Hi everybody,
First, I would like to congratulate our Guru Dave, better late than ever.

Secondo, I don't really have a problem, I'm looking for a way to do something. Let me explain you.

Recently we started to use .NET application to interface with our ISeries, instead of green screen. But we would like to use the ISeries to print what the user has on its "Internet Explorer" screen. Is there any posibility to save the page on ISeries what ever the Format ex: html, pdf, text. and to print it via ISeries. We don't want to setup on every computer all the printer in the company. But our ISeries knows where people are when they Log, So it knows better than anybody else where to print. I just don't know if we can print an html or PDF format file on a printer via ISeries.

Give me your idea about it.

I guess I will start the ball rolling

My thoughts are not trying to capture the screens on the 400 prior to sending to the user but use LPR within the browser.

A button would say click here to print and that would run a connand on the PC something to the effect of
LPR -S myas400.foo.com -P qusrsys/useroutq c:\temp\webpage.txt

This is where the idea falls apart, Don't know how to get the web page seved to a temporary directory without user intervention.

This idea is a good start, but some people could work from a Thin Client, so would had no LPR. But let say I save the web page on pdf format on the 400 file server, is there way with QShell to send it to a printer ?

Thank you so much, At first I thought it could not fit because we use Thin client. But all I had to do, is to execute the command on my web server. and tadam... it works fine. To print a PDF I found a freeware that change PDF to PostScript format (PDFTOPS.EXE which can be found at the link below)

So my Web server create a PDF with ReportServices Change the PDF into PostScript format with PDFTOPS.EXE and after I send the file to my outq with LPR.

Thank's again.

(the site is german but click on "xpdf-3.00pl.exe downloaden" and it will download a package to change PDF many format)
