HP 4600 dtn does not allow automatic printing to tray 2 or tray 3

I have a HP 4600 dtn networked configured printer on tcp/ip that over twenty users access.  Suddenly, two weeks ago, the printer stop allowing printing automatically from either tray 2 or tray 3.  When a print job goes to tray 2 or tray 3, the printer panel prompts the user to manually feed paper into tray 1.  If the user selects from the printer panel to print from tray 2 or tray 3 they must scroll through the menu and press the appropiate button.   How can I get the printer to reset to automatically print from tray 2 or tray 3 without user invtervention at the printer panel.  Thank you very much.
Who is Participating?
Strangely enough, some of my customers had the same problem at about the same time.

After alot of experimentation, I discovered what I think is the culprit:

Microsoft automatic updates.

An update to MS Office had changed (or broken) a setting in word.

Going into Word, tools menu> options>print tab, and unticking "allow a4/letter resizing" allowed the printers to function correctly again.
Check the tray settings on the printer. Make sure the paper type is correct(plain). If you select "plain 8.5x11" in the job and the printer thinks it has letterhead it will not use that tray. Also check the paper size.
